  • The apps simply send the trigger times to the device and the control for the camera and flashes is fully contained in the device. This means, or would indicate, the issue is with the data the device is getting from the app.

Since the dropController works if you use the usb connection I suspect you have the wrong Android app.
    Since you built the…[Read more]

  • You don’t say what optocoupler you are using but it would be worthwhile double checking what connections it uses. Not all are the same.

If you have a voltage meter, check the voltage going in to the optocoupler and if that is OK check that it is switching.

The easiest way to check that the chip is working is by using a 3V battery, an LED, and a…[Read more]

    Hi Mark,

    thanks for reporting back.

This has been reported before but I couldn’t duplicate the issue so assumed it was a change in the compiler or compiler settings with newer IDEs.

Just thought it may actually be the wrong kind of quotes. Maybe it needs single quotes but a zero should work fine.

  • Martyn replied to the topic Compile error in the forum Forum 1 month, 3 weeks ago

What version of the IDE are you using?
I think this comes up with the newer IDEs.

Using relays is certainly possible but I don’t know what effect this would have on timings (if any).

If you can, I would suggest sending them back and getting DC versions. If you cannot send them back you may be able to buy just the electronic part. This part is often available fairly cheaply.

I get most online but I also buy from local aquarium shops which normally have a wide range of tubes and connectors.

You are right, I just checked the sketch I uploaded. I have the wrong pins for the BT connections. Should be 18 and 19. I’ll fix shortly.

I cannot find much information about the SPX7005 except that it is obsolete and may be the same as the 4N35.

Run some tests. Assuming you have a modern camera and digital flash guns (low trigger voltages) set up a SPX7005 with 5V + resistor on the input side and a battery + resistor + LED on output side.

If you have older equipment with higher…[Read more]

The control codes that the app sends to the Arduino are not dependent on the actual pins used. The pin definitions are only used inside the sketch. This means you can move the pins around without changing the apps.

In V3 I have moves many of the connections. All the solenoid pins are now on the same register which will allow easier direct pin…[Read more]

No voltage drop (TIPxxx have a bout a 2v voltage drop) and a switching speed improvement although this makes no real difference when controlling solenoids.

On the other side. TIPxxxs are more robust.

Took longer than I expected but I have just added download links dropControllerV3 sketch, Android app, and the Windows app. All are beta version but should work.

I sometimes get a connection error in the Windows app the first I connect. The second attempt always works. I will look in to this when I get time.

  • Martyn replied to the topic Flash pulse in the forum Forum 4 months ago

The flash trigger pulse time is the time the flash trigger signal is active. It is not the flash pulse. This is available to allow for old cameras. When I first started developing the dropController the camera I was using required a fairly long trigger pule to activate the shutter. Since I added the facility for the camera I also added it for the…[Read more]

I’ll try to post the beta versions in the near future. I am busy with work though so cannot give a definite date.

Have a look at the trouble shooting guide – http://www.dropcontroller.com/trouble-shooting-the-connection-process/

You can also double check the connection by using a BT terminal app
Connect to the dropController using the BT terminal app,
    Then enter <HELLO>
The dropController should reply with <HELLO>

    Not a waste of time.

Although it is possible, it is unlikely the BT module is faulty. You don’t say what module you have. Is it a HC-05 or a HC-06 (Bluetooth Classic)? It is important to determine exactly what module you have.

Different modules have different firmware. This means different command formats and (in some cases) different baud…[Read more]

14.0.0.3 should work with either usb or Bluetooth.

Just had a mini test run. App version 1-38 with Sketch 14.0.0.3 and Bluetooth worked fine.

    Things to check/confirm.
    – Baud rate set to 9600
    – correct value resistors
    – resistors the right way around (the 1K resistor connects to the Arduino)

If all these look good try a serial pass through…[Read more]
