    Hi John,

Thank you very much for keep developing the drop controller!

My Pleasure. Building the controller has become a hobby in it’s own right.

I build gear for my wifes drop photography (www.anita-k-foto.dk/), and was about to make some modifications to her controller, when I noticed V3. Perfect timing :-)

    Nice site.

    We have a few…

  • Hi Luc,

just had chance to review the serial connection for the Micro. The Micro uses the same chip as the Leonardo and the extra setting are DTR and RTS to TRUE. These are only required by the ATmega32U4 based Arduinos (Micro and Leonardo). I have a provision for this on the Settings tab, set Leonardo to YES.

For the 328 based Arduinos these…[Read more]

    Hi Marco,

I have updated the apps and sketches and all should be OK now.
I have also added a short guide on setting up a HC-06 Bluetooth module at http://www.dropcontroller.com/setting-up-checking-bluetooth/

I have updated the apps and sketches. There is now just one Android app and one Windows app. These work with both V2 and V3 dropController devices. Both V2 and V3 now use the same commands again.

    Hi Luc,

I have sent you an email.

  • Build version 3. You do not need to add the additional connections; the digital out and the 2 analogue ports.

Just realised I changed the handshake for wired serial and this may no longer work.

  • Martyn replied to the topic Windows/BT in the forum Forum 3 weeks, 6 days ago

Yes this is possible. SSP BT / BT Classic creates a COM port and this acts just like a serial cable. You need to pair the PC with the BT module used in the droipController to create the COM port. Once you have this select the port in the dropController Windows app.

    See http://www.dropcontroller.com/connecting-dropcontrollerpc-via-bluetooth/. This…[Read more]

  • Connection is a two stage process:
1 – app connects to the Bluetooth module
2 – the app connects to the dropController sketch.

If you are connecting to the BT module this I suspect the issue is with the connection between the Arduino and the BT module. Double check the connections; RX is pin 14 and TX is pin 15.

    #include
    SoftwareSerial…[Read more]

  • The apps simply send the trigger times to the device and the control for the camera and flashes is fully contained in the device. This means, or would indicate, the issue is with the data the device is getting from the app.

Since the dropController works if you use the usb connection I suspect you have the wrong Android app.
    Since you built the…[Read more]

  • You don’t say what optocoupler you are using but it would be worthwhile double checking what connections it uses. Not all are the same.

If you have a voltage meter, check the voltage going in to the optocoupler and if that is OK check that it is switching.

The easiest way to check that the chip is working is by using a 3V battery, an LED, and a…[Read more]

  • Martyn replied to the topic Compile error in the forum Forum 3 months, 3 weeks ago

    Hi Mark,

    thanks for reporting back.

This has been reported before but I couldn’t duplicate the issue so assumed it was a change in the compiler or compiler settings with newer IDEs.

Just thought it may actually be the wrong kind of quotes. Maybe it needs single quotes but a zero should work fine.

  • Martyn replied to the topic Compile error in the forum Forum 3 months, 4 weeks ago

What version of the IDE are you using?
I think this comes up with the newer IDEs.

Using relays is certainly possible but I don’t know what effect this would have on timings (if any).

If you can, I would suggest sending them back and getting DC versions. If you cannot send them back you may be able to buy just the electronic part. This part is often available fairly cheaply.

I get most online but I also buy from local aquarium shops which normally have a wide range of tubes and connectors.

You are right, I just checked the sketch I uploaded. I have the wrong pins for the BT connections. Should be 18 and 19. I’ll fix shortly.

I cannot find much information about the SPX7005 except that it is obsolete and may be the same as the 4N35.

Run some tests. Assuming you have a modern camera and digital flash guns (low trigger voltages) set up a SPX7005 with 5V + resistor on the input side and a battery + resistor + LED on output side.

If you have older equipment with higher…[Read more]

  • Martyn replied to the topic Version 3 of Android App in the forum Forum 5 months, 3 weeks ago

The control codes that the app sends to the Arduino are not dependent on the actual pins used. The pin definitions are only used inside the sketch. This means you can move the pins around without changing the apps.

In V3 I have moves many of the connections. All the solenoid pins are now on the same register which will allow easier direct pin…[Read more]
